EVERYTHING ELSE IS “TIN”

When NCRA – and reporters – refer to stenographic reporting as “the gold standard,” it gives credibility to recorders and voicewriters.  The implication is that there must be a silver standard and a bronze standard – and what could be wrong with that, right?  And how long will it be before NCRA “goes with the flow” and starts referring to artificial intelligence as the platinum standard?

STOP IT, NCRA! The bylaws expressly state that NCRA is to represent stenographic reporters only.  Stenographic reporters are the standard – everything else is tin.

Thank you to those of you that flooded the WUNCRA site about “The Unity Summit.”  A prominent vendor is a big part of it, throwing crumbs to “those that brung them” by offering CEUs on the first day of the gathering.

The brochure states, among other things:

“Please consider joining ‘US’ May 1–4, 2025 … a groundbreaking event advancing the court reporting industry for steno, voice, and digital reporters like never before. … For the first time, STAR and AAERT have come together with other trade groups and partners to foster collaboration, elevate the standards of excellence in our field, and champion the ‘professional’ in the room.  This is a rare opportunity to connect, learn, and lead—all in one place. … This is your chance to engage with all stakeholders shaping its future, to discuss the real challenges we face, and to set standards of excellence that keep human intelligence at the core of our industry for generations, no matter the technology.”

NCRA, what are you doing to counter the story that STAR, its board of directors, and AAERT are putting out to the world?

WAKE UP, NCRA!

P.S.  It’s time to eat crow, NCRA, and beg the Strong Committee to come back.
